Fenwick Iribarren Architects (FIA) is one of the most influential Spanish architecture studios with the greatest international projection, based in Alcobendas (Madrid). Founded in 1990 by Mark Fenwick and Javier Iribarren, the firm stands out mainly for two major pillars: cutting-edge sports architecture and high-rise buildings (commercial spaces and offices).

The complete transformation of Miguel Ángel 23 in the heart of Madrid
The Miguel Ángel 23 (MA23) project, promoted by the real estate company Colonial and completed around 2022, is one of the most outstanding examples of Fenwick Iribarren Architects in the field of comprehensive office renovation in the heart of Madrid's financial centre. This project involves the complete transformation of a 20th-century building to adapt it to the environmental, technological, and health requirements of the 21st century.

The balance between environmental sustainability and human well-being
Thus, in this project, they opted for a dual work strategy. On the one hand, attention is given to the environmental sustainability of the building ( Green Architecture ) by incorporating renewable energy production systems or materials with a low carbon footprint; and, on the other hand, factors that promote the well-being and comfort of the user are applied ( Blue Architecture ) taking into account its multiple facets of relationship, health, gender, safety, ergonomics, accessibility, etc.

Thermopine louvres: solar control, energy efficiency and aesthetic warmth on the facade
Undoubtedly, one of the materials that contributed to this sustainable approach was Thermopine thermally treated wood. In collaboration with Savia, the industrial company Gradhermetic installed Brise Soleil Series BS W Thermopine louvres on the building's facade, offering a wooden solar control solution, a system that also allows for improved energy efficiency by optimising the consumption of the building's cooling elements.

In addition to the technical advantages, the wooden slats bring a distinguished aesthetic value to the facade, elevating the exterior of the building located in the heart of Madrid's financial district.
