Carb2 more accessible than ever May 20, 2009

fibranor.jpgIn response to increasing European furniture retail demands for CARB2 compliant products, FINSA can now offer the widest range of certified boards available on the market.

As distributors and manufacturers are all well aware, leading furniture retailers currently specify the standard, ahead of the full CARB2 implementation in California, scheduled for 2012.

FINSA has had both MDF and chipboard ranges tested by the Wilhelm-Klauditz-Insitut Holzforchung laboratory in Germany, and AITIM. This  means that the group can now offer CARB2 compliant Fibrapan E-Z (MDF) in 8mm to 30mm, Iberpan E-Z (thick MDF)  in 32mm to 70mm, Fibranor EZ 1 in 8mm and Superpan E-Z (MDF sandwiched chipboard, exclusive to FINSA) in 8mm-30mm.

FINSA has been proactive in developing the E-Z range to provide its customers with appropriate solutions to changing requirements. And the range offered will continue to grow, as FINSA is expanding its CARB2 range with certification pending on even more products.

FSC Plywood Please May 20, 2009

plywood.jpgFINSA UK has been successfully certified by SGS to distribute another FSC product in it’s range; 100% FSC certified pine plywood.

FSC certified plywood is extremely limited in supply despite trade demand, which has unfortunately left many buyers with limited options; high quality FSC certified plywood being even less available.

The new Finply range is exterior grade, with I/II faces, CE marking and is available in an impressive range of 4mm to 30mm. FINSA are also working hard to obtain certification for their hardwood combination plywood. Finply, manufactured by FINSA in South Africa, offers what many types of plywood on the market cannot; reassurance of 100% sustainable sourcing with equally high quality specifications.

“The entire timber trade must continue its endeavours to source certified sustainable timber goods to give the foresters, sawmills and manufacturers the market share and protection they justly deserve” said Rafael Willisch, Managing Director of FINSA UK LTD.

It has been government procurement policy that all timber products should come from legal and sustainable sources since the 1st April.

FINSA achieves its first Quality stamps for melamine boards with enhanced fire reaction and low formaldehyde contents: March 3, 2009

Created by Finsa>> Categorie . (0)

At the last meeting of the AITIM Board Committee for Quality Stamps, held on the 27th February, new certifications have been awarded, out of which stands out in a very especial way the certification for melamine boards with enhanced fire reaction and low formaldehyde contents, both for particle boards as well as for medium density fibre boards.
The main property of this type of boards is its enhanced fire reaction. It should be highlighted that in this very specific case, the classification for the raw board cannot be directly translated to the coated board, as either melamine or the decorative veneer may influence the fire reaction of the coated board (even though, logically, the raw board being used for this purpose has enhanced fire reaction in order to opt for enhanced fire reaction). So this leads to consider the melamine board (support board + coating) as a new product and to test it as a product for final application; in practice one never or hardly ever places a raw particle or fibre board for coating a wall or a ceiling.
Testing this product is quite complicated and expensive, as the protocol recommended by Sector Group SG 20 has to be followed for CE branding of wood based panels:
- to test the thickness range, greater - intermediate - smaller.

- to test the whole range of colours, in the case of melamine, considering the lightest colour as reference, the red colour (mandatory) and the darkest colour.

Once the colour with the worst behaviour in the indicative tests has been determined, the whole set of tests is carried out (UNE-EN 13823 = thermal attack and UNE-EN ISO 11925 = inflammability) for the greater and smaller thickness (and, if appropriate, for the intermediate thickness as well).
By compiling these entire results one obtains the EXAP Technical Report, which contains all the thickness and colour ranges for melamine.

FINSA has obtained the two first quality stamps for this product
For the AITIM Stamp, it is mandatory that the manufacturer gets the CE branding according to the harmonized UNE-EN 13986 standard, and that the follow-up semestral tests are carried out in order to confirm the physical characteristics of the melamine board (UNE-EN 14.322).
The certificates that have just been awarded are the following:
Stamp 7-6-1 FINSA
Melamine particle boards with low formaldehyde contents
- thickness range: from 10 to 38 mm
- colour range: all colours
- classification (EXAP report): B-s1, d0

Stamp 7-6-2 FINSA

Melamine particle boards with low formaldehyde contents
- thickness range: from 12 to 30 mm
- colour range: all colours
- classification (EXAP report): B-s2, d0
