Ecobuild. London Abril 2, 2012

Here's what we saw at Ecobuild London!

Last week FINSA attended Ecobuild,   the trade show specializing in environmental sustainability and energy efficiency. With over 1,500 exhibitors, 50,000 visitors and 130 conferences, we could say that Ecobuild is the world's largest exhibition in its field.

As we mentioned two weeks ago in our blog,   "ARNOLD LAVER" a wood-derived products supplier and the official distributor of our board "Superpan TECH P6" in the English market,   participated as an exhibitor at this year's Ecobuild edition. As you can see through the pictures, he enhanced the high-performance features of this panel before architects, designers and prescribers, as the target public at this event. Superpan Tech P6, consisting of medium-density wood fibre (MDF) faces and a particleboard internal core, stood out at the booth as a solution for mezzanines.

In this issue, we pay special attention to the wood construction solutions that were presented, highlighting treated wood for outdoor use, light panels and insulating boards. Major organizations engaged in sustainable building certification, such as "Breeam", "BM Trada" or "NHBC Foundation" were also present.

Many participating companies emphasised their environmental certifications, highlighting most notably all seals related to sustainable forest management FSC and PEFC. In its commitment to sustainability, Finsa has all these certifications, plus it can offer the Environmental Declaration "EPD" for all of its products, which measures the CO2 emissions throughout the product's entire life cycle.

Innovative product SUPERPAN TECH P6 present in ECOBUILD Marzo 15, 2012

Created by Finsa>> Categorie  Ecobuild  Fairs

Once again on March 20th, 21st and 22nd Ecobuild the fair that specialises in environmental sustainability and energy efficiency arrives in London. With the strong support of the British institutions and a strong internatonal flavour, the fair has converted itself in one of the largest events in the world for design, architecture, sustainable building and energy efficiency.
"ARNOLD LAVER" supplier of timber and timber derived products, has been named by FINSA UK as official distributor of the innovative board "SUPERPAN TECH P6" in the English market. Present as an exhibitor in this edition of ECOBUILD they will present the high performance features of the panel, formed by MDF faces, with a particleboard internal core, offers much improved technical properties with respect to bending strength and traction versus standard chipboard.  These properties make it an ideal board for general construction and structural applications, as well as more specialised uses such as partitioning, safety decks, technical flooring and reinforced flooring (Mezzanines)..

“ARNOLD LAVER” regard SUPERPAN as a high-spec product due to its interior structural possibilities, both in a dry environment, and in more demanding applications where a P5 or P6 classification is specified by the building regulations.  The fact you can have the SUPERPAN tongue and grooved on two or four sides, is another major consideration for architects, for ease of assembly and installation, therefore improving labour efficiency.A saving in time and costs that translates in efficiency for the technical team on the site that our official distributor directs itself to.

In a fair like Ecobuild, a reference for sustainable architecture, SUPERPAN finds a perfect platform for it´s presentation, in terms of being environmentally friendly, SUPERPAN stands out as a wood-based, sustainable product that is 100% recyclable, helping to reduce climate change by acting as a CO2 store.  PEFC and FSC certifications guarantee the raw material used comes from sustainable and well managed forests.

"ARNOLD LAVER" will promote during it´s participation in "ECOBUILD" the benefits of SUPERPAN TECH P6 in sustainable construction, with the change of public opinion in recent years, favouring more sustainable construction, SUPERPAN makes its own contribution to reducing our carbon footprint by offering thermal insulation qualities, as well as low formaldehyde emissions, similar to natural timber (E-Z classification with CARB certification).  The fact it can also contribute to LEED projects makes SUPERPAN an attractive solution for the most cutting-edge, sustainable architecture.  “

After the fair we will inform as to what has been the impression caused by SUPERPAN TECH P6 in this demanding environment.

BASF and Finsa join forces to develop a weight-reduced wood-based panel Febrero 7, 2012

BASF and Finsa join forces to develop a weight-reduced wood-based panel

·        Joint development of wood-based panel that is about 30% lighter and combines the SUPERPAN® and Kaurit® Light technology

·        Market launch of the new product is planned for 2012

·        Presentation of the lightweight material at the ZOW trade show in Bad Salzuflen, Germany

Ludwigshafen, Germany and Santiago de Compostela, Spain -  At ZOW, which will run in Bad Salzuflen, Germany, between February 6 and 9, 2012, BASF, the world’s leading chemical company and Finsa, one of the most renowned producers of wood-based panels, will present their joint development project, a lightweight  wood-based panel. The new material that weighs up to 30% less compared to conventional board combines Finsa’s well-known SUPERPAN® technology with BASF’s innovative Kaurit® Light technology. The market launch of the product branded SUPERPAN® STAR is planned for 2012.

“What is truly remarkable about the renowned SUPERPAN® technology, exclusive and patented by Finsa, is that it combines the benefits of both medium-density fiber board (MDF) and chipboard. The two outer layers of the board produced with the SUPERPAN® technology are made of fibers, very similar to a conventional MDF panel. The middle layer is that of a conventional chipboard,” explains Siro Gómez, Head of Marketing, Finsa Spain. Thus, he continues, the SUPERPAN® board offers both a higher resistance to bending than conventional chipboard and benefits during the further processing, from screwing to decorative coating.

„All benefits of the SUPERPAN® board are now combined with the advantages the Kaurit® Light technology that was developed and patented by BASF has to offer. In addition to maintaining the excellent mechanical properties of the board, the new panel now weighs about 30% less than a conventional SUPERPAN® board,” says Wolfgang Gutting, Vice President, Glues and Impregnating Resins, BASF SE and he adds: “This cooperation clearly shows that the innovative Kaurit® Light technology is not limited to being used in chipboard but also allows a considerable weight reduction in various other board types.”

The various applications for the new and lighter panel include furniture production, worktops and interior decoration. It may also be used for trade shows and commercial construction.

The inner layer of SUPERPAN® STAR made with Kaurit® Light technology consists of wood chips, a polymer (Kaurit® Light) and a bonding agent. Before being added to the wood chips, Kaurit® Light is foamed in a so-called pre-foamer. The rest of the manufacturing process is identical to that of conventional SUPERPAN® board. The usual machines and materials can also be used for further processing.  Additionally, SUPERPAN® STAR panels can be recycled as conventional SUPERPAN® or MDF boards. “The new SUPERPAN® STAR technology blends in the well-established process and application chain”, explains Dr Stephan Weinkoetz, project leader Kaurit® Light at BASF SE.

For more information about the new lightweight material, visit the BASF booth in Hall 22-1, stand igeL 8 at ZOW in Bad Salzuflen, Germany or take a look at www.kauritlight.com and www.finsa.com. The ZOW that takes place from February 6 to 9, is one of the biggest and most important trade shows for the furniture industry as well as for the interior design sector.
